Last Vintage Valentine

Thank you to all those who have enjoyed this series of 1920s Valentines that I have been sharing over the past couple of weeks. I hope you enjoyed them!

This is the last Valentine I’ll be sharing for 2014. I wanted to share it, because it was sent to my grandfather as a child, from a teacher, Miss Blue.

While the card is cute, it does promote stereotypes that aren’t very accurate. I don’t know how many First Nations people drove dog sleds…especially European looking sleds…with feathers on their heads…

As an adult, I have come to appreciate the First Nations people that I know and have learned more about their culture. I am thankful for the empathy and understanding I have gained. It’s interesting to look back at the different attitudes expressed over time, and I hope we can continue to learn from the past.
